XB-650i Innovative Features
Patented Design. Premium Quality. Built in USA.
Check out the innovative features of the BeadBuster XB-650i INDUSTRIAL bead breaker that sets it apart from the field of hydraulic bead breakers. The BeadBuster 650i is the only manual bead breaker that is designed for use on 2-pc and 3-pc wheels.

INVESTMENT CAST CONSTRUCTION
The Tool Body, Ram Foot, Clamp Arm, and Clamp Carrier are manufactured by Investment Casting (aka. Lost Wax Casting) which is a high-precision and high-quality method that is also used in the manufacture of Jet Engine Turbine Blades.
The parts are single bodies with no welds, and all of the critical high-stress regions are packed with material for ultimate strength. The final design was optimized with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to provide extra durability while saving weight.
These castings are made from AISI 4140 steel, a high-strength chrome-moly alloy, and is Hardened to HRC 30, with a min. Tensile Strength of 130,000 psi.

INTEGRATED HANDLE
An ergonomic handle is incorporated into the Tool Body casting, which gives the user a secure grip to position the tool around the rim. It serves double duty as a structural member between the Clamp and Ram frames as well.

CLAMP DIRECTION
All BeadBuster bead breakers feature the Clamping Screw in-line with the clamping direction...its part of our US Patent. The XB-650i is the 1st screw-actuated bead breaker to utilize the Clamp Strap mechanism that is used in hydraulic bead breakers. This allows for maximum in-line clamping force applied the rim.
Crucially with the XB-650i, the user decides when the Clamping is finished and its time to operate the Ram, unlike hydraulic bead breakers that have an automatic pressure valve that often prematurely switches over. The BeadBuster Clamp Screw maximizes clamping force, which for the XB-650i INDUSTRIAL is an incredible 15.7 tons max...which is over 10X what a typical hydraulic tool can achieve.
The clamp Straps feature a weigh saving design and Ultra-High-Strength AR500 steel, with Rockwell Hardness of HRC 52 and a staggering Tensile Strength of 240,000 psi.

DUAL SIDED RAM FOOT
The XB-650i has a 2-Sided Ram Foot (Long Side and Short Side) that can be removed and flipped around. This reproduces the foot geometry of both the "Combi" and "Maxi" hydraulic tool foot lengths for a wide range of wheel flange sizes.
The XB-650i will work on any large 1-pc wheel, and all 2-pc and 3-pc wheels that traditionally only hydraulic tools could be used on.

CURVED FEET
The Ram and Hold Feet have a built-in curve that better matches the profile of a wheel than straight feet.

CUSTOM SCREWS
The Clamp and Ram Screws are custom-made 3/4"-10 ACME bolts. They have 1-1/8" heavy Hex Heads that were designed to fit with standard length sockets.
Both screws are made from ASTM A574 steel, which have a Rockwell Hardness of HRC 41, and min. tensile strength of 170,000 psi. ASTM A574 is the gold standard for industrial structural fasteners, which means these screws are fully Impact Wrench compatible.

FLOATING RAM NUT
The captive Ram Screw engages with a floating Ram Nut within the frame of the Ram Foot. This allows the Ram Foot to twist and pivot around the point of contact at the thread engagement with binding or causing side loading of the Ram threads.
The thread length of the Ram Nut (made from hardened 4140 steel) is a full 2X of the nominal (3/4") thread diameter: giving 1.5" of thread engagement. Combined with the high strength materials, a substantial peak force of 28.7 tons can be achieved by the Ram. This is more than double the peak Ram force than can be achieved by a hydraulic bead breaker.
In fact the threads are so robust that the torque required to shear the ASTM A574 bolt (~362 ft-lbs) is substantially lower than the torque required to cause thread failure. If the threads are kept adequately greased on a regular basis, it is virtually impossible to strip the threads out - you would shear the bolt 1st, which can be easily replaced. Both the Ram Nut and Ram Screw are part of a Rebuild Kit (BB8X-RSW-RBK).

CAPTIVE RAM SCREW
The Ram Screw is captive in the Tool Body. A Thrust Bearing Stack (comprised of an oil-impregnated thrust bearing sandwiched by 2 bearing steel washers) loads against the inside of the Tool Body and Hog Ring that is snapped into a groove on the shaft of the Ram Screw. Special countersink geometry compresses the music wire Hog Ring into the Ram Screw for a positive locking capture.

CAPTIVE CLAMP SCREW
The Clamp Screw is captive in the Tool Body. A Thrust Bearing Stack (comprised of an oil-impregnated thrust bearing sandwiched by 2 bearing steel washers) loads against the outside of the Tool Body and the underside of the Clamp Screw hex head. On the inside of the Clamp Carrier frame, the Clamp Screw is captured by a custom-made Castle Nut and a Roll Pin.

2-POSITION CLAMP ARM HINGE
The Clamp Arm Hinge has 2 positions. The upper position is for typical flange widths on 3-pc wheels. The lower position allows the Clamp Arm to reach further and around a wider rim flange.
The hinge geometry itself was optimized to save weight yet still be strong enough to handle the highest clamping loads. The hinge pin is a non-structural component, and merely keeps the Clamp Arm retained. The reaction forces go directly into a journal cast into the Tool body itself, and the end of the Clamp Arm acts as the pivot hinge. The result is heavy hinge pin performance without actually using any pin at all.
